“Clifton Elementary is more than just a great school, it is the kind of school that all other schools aspire to be. Clifton consistently finds the special balance between promoting independence by students and maintaining a respectful environment, between pushing students to give more effort and supporting them when they need extra help. The teachers and staff at Clifton do more than teach the material, they pay attention to how they teach and are attentive to whether their methods are getting through to their students. Clifton teachers are also very effective at engaging parents to be a constructive part of their child's educational experience. Clifton is great because the teachers, staff, students, and community have effectively developed a culture that makes the children love the school and love learning. Clifton is just a great school!”

“I moved to Clifton after elementary school, and was sent to Fairfax High School. I had NO idea that the community was so close and wondeful until my son started school at Clifton. For the first time in 25 years of living in Clifton, I feel like an active member of a great community. This is a gift from Clifton Elementary. I know so many people now. That fact inspires me to go to the resteraunts and parks because I know I'll see friends from the school. The school is so important to us all.”

“Clifton Elementary School is a cornerstone of our community, and one of the reasons we moved to this area. Being members of this small school has taught my children that they are an integral 'piece of the puzzle' in their school community, not a 'face in the crowd.' Clifton Elementary provides a creative, individualized approach to education, which fosters a love of learning among the children. “It is central to the community of Clifton. It provides the type of setting our schools shoul be aimed towards; a community based reasonablely sized school. Clifton is a school that has a village mentality as opposed to that of a factory that mass produces a product. It is a school where a student can feel a sense of belonging. When a student believes that she or he is more than just a number that student's chance for success goes up exponentially. When the powers that be come to realize that every child is an exception to the rule and they need to be educated some place where it is too small to slip between the cracks, then our educational system will finally start to make progress. Clifton Elementary is that school.”

“Clifton is a small school with a warm feeling. It sits atop a hill surrounded by trees and a close knit community and has the perception of a place in the country, different from the reality that it is in the heart of Fairfax County, a busy suburb just 20 minutes from the power house of our nation's Capital, Washington, DC. It's a unique treasure, that holds a comforttbale level of students where kids are a name and not lost amongst their peers. It is a place adjacent a small Normal Rockwell like town (again, rare in Fairfax County) and is nurtured by parents, businesses and the Mayor of Clifton. It has been atop that hill welcoming students for generations and should be there welcoming our children's children for future generations to come.”

“Clifton is a super, super, super, fantastic school! Why? Well, I could go on and on about that. But one of the main reasons Clifton is a great school is because of the wonderful communtiy of people it creates. At Clifton, you develop really strong friendships with everyone, and you can have the friends for life. Because the school is small, you know everyone in the school. Teachers and parents work together to make Clifton great for the students. It is absolutley the best school!”

“Clifton Elementary is an excellent public school! It is uniquely situated in a historic, small town nestled in a quiet corner of vibrant Fairfax County, outside of Washington, DC. Children have the opportunity to experience a unique educational experience, which involves the close cooperation and collaboration of excellent teachers, administrators, committed parents, and students. Every teacher my child had when she attended Clifton, from kindergaten through sixth grade, was excellent, and provided her with an incredible opportunity to learn and grow in a close-knit community and to learn solid values that will last her a lifetime. She is now a middle school student in all honors classes, and has been invited to join apply to NJHS. She is currently volunteering to help at Clifton Elementary, to give back to the school that has helped her so much. Clifton Elementary is probably the best elementary school in the country in our opinion.”

“It's local to the Clifton area for the students and while busing is a requirement, there is lighter traffic to be encountered. It also serves to lessens the burden for busy parents if circumstances require their driving the student to or from the school, if it became a necessity. It's small enough to provide a more personal relationship between the students and also between students and teachers. Over the past thirty or so years, the quality of education provided by the Clifton school has greatly improved, according to news reports. Tear the school down and enter the students into a 'mega' school would probably require another thirty years to obtain the same level of eficiency, if ever. Further, the cost of building a new and larger school, while destroying the current schools doesn't seem very economical. And last but not least, I much prefer for my grandson to attend a small local school. So in my case, I should identify myself as a grandparent , not a student's parent.”

“It is the glue that holds our far reaching community together! Most of our children live far away from one another and it has connected children and parents together for years. Long lasting relationships are a result -- they go from a class of 60 friends to 660 at Robinson and the connections with our small town of Clifton and the Clifton Elementary are an incredibly strong bond. Having been a volunteer, PTA President at Clifton, volunteer coordinator for the class at Robinson, co-chair of all-night grad, etc., I speak from experience. Clifton Elementary, as well as the town of Clifton, are jewels within Fairfax County and should be preserved!”

“I attended this school for five years and will be sending my three children in coming years. I am still friends with my classmates from this tiny school 25 years later, and the school itself has a lot to do with that. It's a little school high on a hill that looks over a small, rural railroad town otherwise surrounded by suburban sprawl. The school is an oasis. Everyone who has attended has a special feeling for it, and the time they spent there. When we moved on to the super-sized secondary schools, the students from Clifton Elementary proved to be among kindest, hardest-working, and highest achieving students in the crowd. I'm sure the milieu of Clifton Elementary forged that spirit in us. Great school.”

“Clifton ES is a Community School, which serves children from a wide-reaching geographic boundary area. Families who would never meet eachother are brought together in this nurturing environment and form the basis of the Clifton Community Area. The teaching staff is outstanding and very supportive of each child. Parents are very active in the PTA and in the classroom and provide such programs as the Innovention and Invention Fair, foreign language instruction, Art in the Schools, Learning Garden, and more. “Nestled in the rolling fields of southwestern Fairfax County just outside our Nation's Capital, Clifton Elementary brings to our community an education second to none. The dedicated staff of which this year everyone returned with no transitions over the summer, provides our students with a well-rounded learning environment. Whether our children are focused on assisting the community in programs like Operation Sandwich where each year thousands of sandwiches are provided for a local shelter or they are experiencing hands-on education through the learning garden established for each grade level, they are guaranteed to flourish. “Clifton Elementary is at the heart of the Clifton community. It is the place that families first get to know each other in a very large geographic area that is not connected by sidewalks, neighborhood pools, shopping complexes, etc. Without Clifton Elementary, the Clifton area community would be vastly different than as we know it today. Not only would businesses be impacted, but the cohesiveness of the area itself would be gone. It is a great school with great staff and it shows not only in the achievement of the students, but also in thier willingness to give back to the surrounding communities through various community service projects!”

“I've been a parent in this school for 7 years and the school is outstanding. The school is small, and the facilities are in desperate need of updating, but the dedicated teachers and staff have a jewel here. Very high parent involvement, helping to run science fairs, arts in the schools programs, field days, learning garden, and more. Very active PTA raises funds for field trips, smart boards, and other needed supplies. Parents are in the classrooms and behind the scenes, and we are blessed with a Principal who knows how to direct that enthusiasm. Numerous school-wide service projects for our community throughout the year and very active scouting groups at all grade levels. Love the school.”
